Grape: Lemberger (Blaufränkisch)
Vineyard: Gehrnhalde, VDP.Grosses Gewächs
Sub-region: Stetten Wine region
Notes: The Grosse Lagen Gehrnhalder is a slightly flatter and cooler location than Berge. In the east-facing vineyards, the Lemberger vines, which are over 40 years old, grow on pure reed sandstone floors. Due to their old and deep roots, they can obtain a particularly large number of nutrients from the soil.
The Lemberger grapes have a reduced yield and are harvested by hand at the perfect point of ripeness. After the one-week cold maceration, the mash fermentation follows with natural yeasts. The wine then matures for 1.5 years in used barrique barrels and for half a year in large wooden barrels on the fine lees. This is a wine which is elegant and complex Lemberger with high aging potential. It has a herbal note reminiscent of eucalyptus.
